The efforts in branding donnanphoto.com was partially centered around the idea of “what will this look like” in someone’s hands?
After working with my graphic designer on a concept, we came up with the celtic heart knot. It is simple, yet intricate in the ideas behind it. For one, it’s kind of manly, yet girly of course with the hearts. We had to appeal to the primary audience of the wedding crowd, yet still show a manly side to it since I am in fact a guy.
Ever since we completed the logo & branding I’ve been dying to see how this would look pressed into some nice card stock. There could be a pattern of the logos, or just one simple logo pressed in.
The artist tried to digitally emboss the logo, which of course was a horrible idea. Just like my photography, a digi-emboss is faking the funk.
My potential clients need to be wowed with anything and everything I give them, or anything they see. A half-ass business card is going to do nothing to help me from standing out among other photographers. This is why I love letterpress. It’s both unique and real, just like what I strive for in my photos.
I LOVE the feel of letter pressed pieces. The impression made by each letter is simply beautiful !
I’m a cake decorator. I work in the wedding industry primarily…and what do brides love? Letterpress. So it would be spectacular to have my own set of letterpress business cards to hand out!!
I love letterpress so much that I’ve been looking into starting a wedding invitation business, but have to find a machine first!!
Letterpress is one of those rare places where the creative and the functional meet. It requires a craftsperson’s skill and and an artisan’s eye. When the piece is held, there is heft, and (the creator hopes), inspiration and beauty for the beholder.
The craftsmen and craftswomen who do letterpress have to love history, because they are living it. They’re true diplomats and representatives of the past; bringing history right back to today. Each person doing this work in the U.S. is a rare gem – I am truly happy that letterpress exists. It makes the virtual world seems so sad and hollow by comparison.
If you are selling something that is handmade, letterpress cards are essential. I would argue they are a required piece of your sales cycle. That way, when your prospect holds your card, he or she can see an example of the type work you represent. Your prospect can see that you place the highest possible value on what you do.
Thanks to all the letterpress craftsmen out there. Please don’t stop doing what you do.
How could you not love letterpress, is so luxurious!
I’m a Dental Hygienist in NJ, here one must practice under a Dentist so its hard to define yourself apart from being ” just one of the girls in the office”.
Also, I do a lot of temporary fill-in work, so Letterpress business cards would give me a distinct edge when networking with other offices.
Additionally, I’ve been interested in starting a side business – so this may be just the help I need!

For most, a business card is a simple formality. In the age of social media and online communication, more chose to connect through LinkedIn and Facebook – inevitably forgetting about their cookie-cutter business cards in cluttered desk drawer (as I currently have).
Their standard block text and common layouts are all but forgettable; most often used to enter into “shwag” drawings at restaurants and trade shows (people – they just want your name for their mailing lists…figure it out!).
Letterpress however, is the game-changer; a reason to covet your card, rather than distribute it in mass quantities to Larry and Jim at “WeSellYourIdentity.com.” Letterpress allows you to transform you and your company’s personality into a physical, easy-to-carry form; to truly express what it is that makes you unique.
Should I be so fortunate enough to be chosen as the winner of this contest, I hope to create a card that illustrates the meaning behind my wife’s new fledgling freelance design endeavor – Parkside Design Consultants. As of right now we have a ONE project, but hope to grow modestly over the coming months. A letterpressed business card from Don’t Press Me would be a great spark and tool to use towards reaching that goal.
Jamie,
“Don’t Press Me” is dope man. I’m a poor husband and father who wishes he could spend money on romantic accessories like beautifully designed stationary and balla ass business cards. Alas, I cannot. So my only hope to have such a luxury at this point is to enter into your give away
Much respect!
Jay
As a fellow designer, I find traditional ways of printing to be very appealing; which of course includes letterpress. I strive to be unique and stand out amongst the ever growing pool of cookie cutter creatives. Anyone can have digitally printed business cards, possibly even have some printed up on 100 lb ultrasmooth cover, “OMG, it even has a watermark!” Nevertheless, in the end they all look the same, and don’t have the subtle differences between each print which are characteristic of letterpress printing. Not to mention, the texture is really cool.
Is that good? Do I win?

I am a wedding invitation designer, with a BFA and dual major in graphic design and printmaking. I ended up going the corporate graphic design and art direction route, but my like the deep impressions left by wood type and fresh ink (I still miss that smell every day) a true love for gorgeous printing on fine paper is etched on my soul. Might be a bit cheesy, but true. Letterpress business cards would truly reflect who I am and what I love. Thanks for this contest!
